The door solution for overhead cranes

In an industrial hall with a crane track, every centimetre is valuable. Obstacles such as door rails or hanging door leaves can restrict freedom of movement, making efficient work more difficult. Moreover, comfort and safety play a major role in a pleasant working environment. Traditional industrial doors can impose unnecessary restrictions: ceiling rails obstruct the crane track, maintenance costs increase and insulation often falls short. The Compact door is the solution in crane track halls.

Maximum space, optimum work process

Maximum space utilisation

In modern business environments, where efficiency and flexibility are key, every square metre of space must serve a purpose. To operate efficiently, an overhead crane must move freely — without any door rails or other obstacles getting in the way. The Compact door is the solution in overhead crane halls.

The Compact door folds up above the door opening, instead of sliding along the ceiling. This leaves the entire ceiling free of ceiling rails or other moving parts.

What are the advantages?

Full height of the hall remains available

Thanks to the smart folding system, the full height of the door opening is always available — even directly behind the door. Perfect for high stacking racks, hoists or overhead cranes.

Overhead cranes can run right behind the door

Thanks to the absence of rails or protruding parts in the hall, it is possible to run a crane track right up to the door opening. This maximises the efficiency of internal transport and production processes.

More comfort, less maintenance

Comfortable and practical working environment

A pleasant workplace is essential for productivity and well-being. The Compact door in crane track halls contributes to this thanks to:

  • Glass panel option – The Compact door can be optionally fitted with glass panels. These let daylight in, keeping the work area pleasant and well-lit even when the door is closed.
  • Insulation – Thanks to the insulated door panels, the temperature in the hall remains stable. Unlike traditional roller shutters, the Compact door prevents draughts and unnecessary heat loss. This not only ensures more comfort on the shop floor, but also helps to reduce energy bills – a major benefit in both summer and winter.More comfort, less maintenance
Easy installation

Low-maintenance

A low purchase price seems attractive, but with a standard sectional door, maintenance costs quickly pile up due to maintenance-prone balance springs. The Compact folding door is a smarter long-term investment: no balance or torsion springs, less maintenance, saving you up to €300 a year. Choose sustainability and save in the long run!

The Compact door is TÜV-tested for a lifetime of 100,000 cycles. This means you can enjoy years of trouble-free use of your door, without the worry and expense of frequent repairs.

Ter linden Transport

We like the doors super well. They perform excellently and we hardly ever have any breakdowns. The big advantage is that they are not in the way and the full height of the hall is maintained. If we had installed a closed door here, it would be a dark den inside. It is important to us that sufficient daylight enters, as this contributes to a more pleasant working environment for our employees. The doors form a large part of the rear façade, making them our business card. The full vision panels give a modern look that suits our image well.

Overhead crane and commercial doors;

Overhead crane and commercial doors; impossible combination?

We were recently approached by a customer who had a building in which overhead cranes had to be mounted in combination with commercial doors. Some new (!) standard overhead doors were recently installed, but the overhead rails of those doors hindered the installation of the crane track. The only solution was to replace all new doors with the Compact commercial door without overhead rails. A costly design flaw that fortunately can be avoided.

Perfect combination thanks to extended rails

Perfect combination thanks to extended rails

Combining an overhead door with a crane runway is usually somewhat difficult or even impossible. The space-saving Compact folding door makes this much easier. If you additionally opt for extended rails, the possibilities are endless.

Thanks to the extended rails, the point at which the panels fold together is further up above the door opening. In the case of a crane runway, for example, this means that the panels run upwards behind the runway guidance and fold together above the crane runway. In this way, both the crane runway and the door can move without restriction.

compact door with crane track

An industrial door and a crane track, what to do?

In industrial halls with a crane track, it is important to optimize space as much as possible. Traditional overhead doors can get in the way due to their rail system on the ceiling, and are therefore sometimes difficult to combine with a crane track. The Compact door by Rolflex is a possible solution for this problem. Thanks to the smart folding system of this industrial door, the entire height of the hall remains available, so that you can use the crane track without obstacles.

Crane track doors at Ter Linden Transport: optimal freedom of movement.

Ter Linden Transport is a specialist in international special transport, particularly for large objects such as wind turbines. From their headquarters in Doetinchem, they handle the logistical preparation of their transports, using a large hall to prepare their vehicles and equipment. A crane track is installed in this hall and is used regularly. A few years ago, the company was looking for a door solution that would provide sufficient space for their operations while being reliable, robust, and well-insulated. The Compact door from Rolflex proved to be the ideal choice.

Compact industrial door for textile company

Compact industrial door for this textile company

This textile company was looking for doors for their loading docks. The problem they encountered was that the clothes conveyor belt had to reach all the way to the door. This makes it easier to hang the clothes from the truck on the conveyor belt. Because of all the beams and pipes behind the door, there was really no room for installation. Fortunately, the Compact door offered a solution.

Industrial doors with wicket door at Alliander Westpoort

The network company Alliander, has got a new regional location in Amsterdam, which is called “Westpoort”. The location now has various facilities such as offices, training areas, workshops, warehouses and test rooms. During the planning of the building, special attention was paid to flexibility, sustainability and costs. For example, many recycled materials were used in the construction and wooden structures were used for a large part. The building is energy-neutral thanks to solar collectors, heat and cold storage. The insulated Compact industrial doors with wicket door at Alliander Westpoort also contribute to this.
